Alba Bales House

The Alba Bales House, originally called the "Practice House" (1922-1936) and then the "Home Management House" (1936-1954), was built to comply with the Smith-Hughes Act of 1917. Stanely A. Smith, Professor of Architecture, NDAC, was responsible for the design of the house. NDAC became the vocational training center for home economics teachers in North Dakota. Since practical experience was an integral part of the experience, the "Practice House" was built in 1921-1922 and was used for practical training in home economics for 60 years. Today the Family Therapy Center occupies the house.
