History
Sigma Alpha Iota (SAI) was founded on June 12, 1903 at the University School of Music, Ann Arbor, Michigan. The Omicron Chapter at North Dakota Agricultural College was chartered on March 26, 1920. The Fargo-Moorhead Alumnae Chapter was chartered on May 21, 1950. It should be noted that although the Alumnae Chapter did not formalize until 1950, as early as January 1943 an alumnae group had been formed, meetings held, and minutes taken.

The Mission of Sigma Alpha Iota International Music Fraternity is to encourage, nurture and support the art of music. The purpose of SAI is to form Chapters of women college students and alumnae who have a sincere interest in music; to uphold the highest standards of music; to further the development of music in America and throughout the world; to give inspiration and encouragement to members; to organize the cultural life of Sigma Alpha Iota members as a contributing factor to their educational growth, to support the ideals and goals of the member's Alma Mater, and to adhere to the highest standards of citizenship in school, community and fraternity. Scope and Contents
The records are predominately from the Fargo-Moorhead Alumnae Chapter of Sigma Alpha Iota.
The Alumnae Meeting Minutes from 1943 through the early 1990s are fairly complete and provide a good overview of the discussions, committees, finances, and Chapter direction on a monthly basis. The Alumnae President’s Reports from the early 1950s through the early 2000s present a yearly record of the goals, aims, and objectives for the Chapter during years. The Yearbook series from 1948-1949 through the mid-2000s also gives a glimpse into the activities and programs the chapter presented and sponsored.
