History
In 1983, the North Dakota State Board of Higher Education approved an undergraduate Petroleum Engineering Program at North Dakota State University (NDSU).  Petroleum Engineering was a component of the Engineering Science Department, a division in theCollege of Engineering and Architecture at NDSU.  The program was intended to encourage young people from North Dakota to choose careers in petroleum engineering.

The Petroleum Engineering program at NDSU officially began in the 1986-1987 academic year.  Student enrolled in the program took core courses in petroleum engineering along with courses in chemistry, engineering, geology, mathematics, and physics.  Due to budget cuts the Petroleum Engineering program was discontinued in 1995.

Scope and Content
The Petroleum Engineering Department records consist of the following four series:  Faculty, Financial, Office, and the Petroleum Engineering (P.E.) Program.  All four series are arranged alphabetically and chronologically within series.

The Faculty series contains letters, personal papers, resumes, schedules, applications, evaluations, and interviews.  The Financial series is comprised of receipts, travel requests, and schedules.  The Office series possesses proposals, logs, schedules, reports, letters sent and received.  The last series, the P.E. Program consists of pamphlets, manuals, schedules, requests, tests, evaluations, floppy disks, textbook orders, letters, and scholarships.
