Reports:

Membership
Past-Chair and Volunteer Treasurer & Membership Chair Susan Podrygula reported on the results of the membership drive. Twenty-three members belong to ACRL and the North Dakota Chapter, sixteen members belong to the North Dakota Chapter only, and nine national ACRL members did not join the North Dakota Chapter.

Treasurer
Podrygula reported a balance of $624.24. The breakdown is as follows: $230.00 from ACRL members, $320.00 from non-ACRL members, and the remainder from interest and gifts.

Unfinished Business:

There was general discussion and information about the possibility of a joint North Dakota - Manitoba ACRL Chapter and how that would impact the affiliation with the Academic Section of NDLA. There is already a precedent in Western New York - Ontario Chapter of ACRL. The national ACRL is supportive.  Susan Suart, University of Manitoba stated that there is interest among Manitoba librarians.  If we form a joint North Dakota-Manitoba ACRL, we would need a constitution, and this would impact the constitution we now have with the Academic Section of NDLA.

  • Frank D’Andraia moved that we establish a joint North Dakota - Manitoba Chapter of ACRL. John Beecher seconded it. After a vote by a show of hands,  the motion passed.
  • Frank D’Andraia moved that a committee should be established to write a constitution for a North Dakota - Manitoba Chapter of ACRL Cynthia Shabb seconded. The vote was taken by a show of hands, and the motion passed.
Sally Dockter asked for volunteers to serve on the Constitution Committee. James Carlson, Frank D’Andraia, and Susan Suart will serve on this committee.

New Business:

Sally Dockter submitted a written report on the ACRL Chapters meeting in San Antonio at ALA Midwinter. Dockter emphasized the importance of representation from North Dakota at ALA Conferences and at ACRL Conferences.

  • Jan Miller moved that we keep the present governing structure in place until we have a constitution. Frank D’Andraia seconded it. The vote was taken by a show of hands, and the motion passed.
Frank D’Andraia volunteered to help with the 1997 Spring program.

Announcements:

Lillian Sorenson announced that some items on the NDLA Fall Conference program are in place: Jean Anderson from Chester Fritz Library will present a program on Electronic Reserves and Larry Isaak will be the luncheon speaker on the 26th. The Conference will be September 26, 27, and 28.

Sally Dockter reminded members to post news on NDLIB-L.

The Manitoba librarians who are in attendance at this meeting will serve as contacts to inform other Manitoba librarians about the North Dakota - Manitoba ACRL.

There being no further business, the meeting was adjourned until Spring 1997.

Respectfully submitted,

Mary Kroshus, Secretary
