  1. Staff positions

Lisa Mann will join the staff this Wednesday as the new account technician.

Heather Jo Heger has been selected for the position in the Chemistry Library.

The Reference Associate position closes 4/25, and interviews will begin shortly after.

  2. Department reports

        Circulation
    – Helen indicated that shelf reading will be the priority between semesters, if student workers are available.

Interlibrary loan – is nearly ready to resume filling ILL book requests for other libraries.

Institute/Archives – a strategic planning session is scheduled for mid-May. At this point it is looking favourable that the Institute/Archives may be moving into a larger space at the Skills Center.

Reference -- Kathie R, Kathy E, and Alan all submitted successful grants for book acquisitions from the Centennial Fund.

Architecture – received the additional table and 4 chairs to relieve crowding. There is considerable discussion in the Architecture building about their programs moving to a downtown campus. Staff will be kept informed if it is likely that a move for the library is imminent.

Pharmacy – the renovation is scheduled for sometime in the coming year, with a probable asbestos removal on the first floor of the building this summer. It is likely that for the summer, the front door will be closed and the back fire exit will be designated as the library entry.

Tech Services – 1600 oclc records for e-books are being loaded by Minitex.

Annex – microforms continue to arrive and be incorporated into the collection. Most of the moldy Munters materials have been removed. Checking in the microforms and donated journals will be the priority for the coming month.

  3. Disaster/Safety Team -- Tom and Clarice presented a brief overview of the the Quick Response Document and encouraged staff to go through it online. A meeting will be scheduled in the next two weeks to work through it page by page. The Tornado Alert was reviewed.

  4. Basement -- Plans for the basement renovation have arrived and will be left in the staff lounge for a day for staff to look over. Dr Chapman and Dr Schnell have made the final decision that the journals are not going back in the basement.

As more information about staying at the Annex, the possibility of a downtown campus, and/or other spaces becomes available further decisions can be made. It is hoped that at least several years of the journals can be brought back into the main building and less used materials switched out to off-site storage.

  5. Budgetdepts. were reminded to submit equipment and other needs for the budget. It is expected that the university will ask for budget requests once the legislature has adjourned.

  6. System migration a timeline for PALS system migration was shared with the staff. It looks like June 2003 is the likely migration date, as that is also when Concordia and MSUM are migrating.

  7. Notice Board a large notice board on wheels has been purchased for the main library, and will be stored in the conference room. It will be useful to put in the lobby area to notify classes and groups visiting the building what rooms to meet in.
