Power Failure

If the power fails during day - time hours . . .

1. Call Administration at 1-8352 to find out when electricity will be restored and notify staff/patrons.
2. Circulation staff will institute security measures to take the place of the automatic security gate (e.g., check bags, etc. as people leave, etc.)

3. Check if anyone is trapped in the elevators.  If so, follow Elevator Malfunction procedures.

4. Check if anyone needs assistance exiting a room (study room, bathroom, etc.) or the building.

5. Turn off all electrical devices such as computers (both public and staff), monitors, copiers, typewriters, printers, etc.

1. Call University Police at 1-8998, or 911 for an emergency situation to find out when electricity will be restored and notify staff/patrons.

2. The reference librarian on duty will make the determination whether or not to close the library.
