Disruptive Person


General Considerations

    Whenever a staff member has reasonable doubt that he/she cannot control a situation at the time, the campus police should be called.  "Situation" includes theft of property, personal behavior that constitutes a private or public nuisance (ND Century Code 42-01-06) or any event that may pose a danger to a person's physical welfare.

Procedures for violence (assault, harassment, destruction of property, vandalism, problem patrons, theft, etc.)

  1. Observe suspicious person, but do not attempt to detain them.
  2. Elicit support from your supervisor or co-worker.
  3. Whenever a staff member has reasonable doubt that he/she cannot control a situation at the time, call the campus police (Emergency: 911; Non-emergency: 231-8998). 
  4. If a third party reports the problem, ask the person reporting to remain with you until the campus police arrive
  5. After handling the situation, obtain names, addresses, and phone numbers of witnesses and fill out the ND Incident Report Form (ND Risk Management Fund SFN 50508), and be certain others who assisted also fill out a copy.
  6. Send one copy of the ND Incident Report Form to the University Attorney, one copy to your immediate supervisor, and one to the Library Director.
