Circulation
|
The Circulation Desk, located just inside the entrance of
the Library, is where books are checked out and returned.
It is also where you get your ID activated, pick up Reserve
and Pull Service items, and check out keys to study rooms.
|
If an instructor places an item on Reserve, use the
online catalog to look up its ID, and ask for it at the Circulation
Desk. An electronic version of the Reserve item may be accessible
through Docutek
on the Library webpage.
You will need to activate your NDSU ID before you
can check out any library materials or use library services and
equipment. The Library uses the barcode and serial number on the
back of your NDSU ID as your library card. Once activated, you can
even use your ID to check out materials at the MSUM and Concordia
Libraries.
Shott Collection
|

|
The Shott collection,
in the Weber Reading Room, consists of high-quality recreational
reading books and audio
books. The collection emphasizes award winning titles,
mysteries, science fiction, current bestsellers, self-improvement,
popular fiction and nonfiction titles.
|
Interlibrary Loan
|
If NDSU does not have a book or article that you need, you
can request it through Interlibrary Loan (ILL). The NDSU Library
will borrow the item or items you need from another library.
Requests from ILL typically arrive within seven days of the
request. You can pick up and return ILL items at the ILL desk.
Interlibrary Loan is located on the main level of the Library,
just down the hall from the Circulation Desk.
|
Multi-Media
|
Media items, including cassettes, VHS tapes, CDs, computer
files, LPs, slides, and kits, are located on the shelves between
the Interlibrary Loan office and the Reference Desk. These
materials can be checked out. There are also lists of popular
movies and Books
on CD available at the Circulation Desk. In addition to
the media materials, there is equipment available for in-house
viewing.
|
Reference
|
Reference materials include encyclopedias, dictionaries,
atlases, indexes, and more. These items are all located in
the Reference section of the Library. All the items located
in this part of the Library have the word "Reference"
in the call number. These materials cannot be checked out.
|
There are two photocopiers available in the Library
if you need to make copies. To make color copies of reference items,
you can use the available scanner and color printer.
The Reference Desk is where you want to go when you
have library or research questions. Reference librarians can help
you find books and articles for your speeches and papers, and assist
you with other research. The staff at the reference desk is there
to help!
Current Periodicals
|
Current magazines and journals (Periodicals)
are located on the south side of the first floor, just beyond
the Reference Desk. Current periodicals include items from
the year 2000 to the present. Older paper periodicals are
stored off campus and must be requested through the Pull
Service. Periodicals cannot be checked out by undergradute
students.
|
When researching, don't forget
to check online for Electronic
Journals! The Library has hundreds of electronic databases available.
