Circulation Policies

All NDSU and Tri-College students, faculty and staff have check-out privileges in the Architecture & Landscape Architecture Library. Other patrons may apply for special permits, which are available at the Main Library Circulation Desk.
  • Books: Four weeks for students, extended loan for faculty, staff, graduate students, and fifth year architecture and landscape architecture students. One renewal. All books subject to recall after two weeks.

  • Periodicals: Five days, 5-day grace , no renewal, for faculty and staff, graduate students, and fifth year architecture and landscape architecture students. Others may check out issues or volumes for photocopying or scanning only.

  • Reference: No check out.

  • Theses: Four weeks for all patrons.  One renewal.

  • Slide sets: One week for all patrons.  One renewal.

  • Individual Slides: Three days or as arranged.

  • Slide carousels: One week for all patrons.  One renewal.

  • Videos: One week for all patrons.  One renewal.

Library Materials
  • Books
    The Architecture & Landscape Architecture collection has more than 13,000 books, which are classified according to Library of Congress classification. Reference books and folios are shelved seperately.

  • Periodicals
    The periodical collection includes 70 current subscriptions. Although the periodicals are classified by the Dewey Decimal System, they are shelved alphabetically by title. Some current year issues are kept on display shelves. Journal titles prior to 1975 are shelved at the Main Library or in an off-campus storage library.

    The Tri-College Union List of Serials arranged in alphabetical order by title, gives call numbers, holdings and locations for all periodical and serial titles owned by participating Fargo-Moorhead libraries. Several indexes are available, mainly Art Index, Architectural Publications Index, Architectural Index, and an older edition of The Avery in paper. Also online are the Avery Index to Archictectual Periodicals and Art Index Retrospective, 1929-1984.
  • Microforms
    Some periodical volumes are available only on microfiche which is indicated in the Tri- College Union List of Serials and the online catalog. All microfiche, readers, and printers are located at the Main Library.

  • Slides & Videos
    The Arch/LA Library has more than 36,000 individual slides classified by a system devised by the Department of Architecture and Landscape Architecture. For help in locating individual slides, inquire at the desk or consult the slide guide sheet. More than 130 videos are available.

  • Reserves
    Materials placed on reserve by faculty are shelved behind the circulation desk. Reserves have limited circulation and are listed on ODIN, the online catalog.

  • AV Equipment
    Slide carousels, a Caramate slide viewer and a TV/VCR with headphones are available in the Architecture and Landscape Architecture Library. Slide projectors can be checked out in Room 106, the office of the Department of Architecture & Landscape Architecture.

  • Theses
    The documentation of the final projects of the fifth-year Architecture & Landscape Architecture students are shelved by year with the regular collection using the Library of Congress classification system.

  • Sweets Catalogs and Product Information
    A recent copy of Sweets is maintained. All are located by the photocopier.
Tri-College Libraries Cooperation

Students at NDSU, University of Minnesota Moorhead, and Concordia College may use library facilities and check out books at any of the Tri-College libraries. When checking out materials, students are required to show their picture ID card, which has their library bar-code, and abide by the regulations of the lending library.


Online Catalog

The NDSU Library is a participant in ODIN. This database contains not only the library records of NDSU, but also those of other universities and state agencies in North Dakota. Information sheets are available on using the online catalog.

Interlibrary Loan Services


Items not owned by NDSU may be obtained through regional and national interlibrary loan networks. Requests can be submitted using a written request form, an online request form, or using the ODIN online catalog system. Ask library personnel for assistance. Materials must be picked up at the Main Library.

Photocopier

Library users have access to a photocopier which is located at the southwest corner of the library. The cost is $0.10 / per page.
