Books or
Adopt-A-Journal
Campaign
Please contact the Libraries at: 701-231-8352
or the
appropriate subject librarian
to discuss donating books
or periodicals to the libraries.
A librarian will arrange a mutually convenient time
to receive the materials and also discuss
acknowledgement considerations.
Please note that librarians cannot appraise the
value of your
donation. Should you need to establish a fiscal value of
the
gift for tax or other purposes, you will need to obtain an appraisal
from a private source.
Acceptance of materials is subject to conditions
regarding their disposition, location, or use.
Once accepted, gift items become the property of
the Libraries and may not be reclaimed by the donor. Items not
added to the collection may be sold, with the proceeds used to
purchase additional needed materials.
Guidelines for Accepting Gift Books and Other
Materials
The same selection criteria for purchased library
materials
is used for gifts.
These criteria were designed to build a collection
that
supports the University's curriculum and research needs.
Gifts that do not meet the collection criteria of
NDSU
Libraries include:
- Damaged, dated, or superseded materials
- Old textbooks
- Duplicates of books
- Periodicals that the library already owns (such
as National Geographic, Good Housekeeping, and
Science)
- Materials in subject areas that do not support
teaching or research in NDSU disciplinary areas (e.g., internal
medicine or pastoral theology)
